Sleepywood furnishings are one-of-a-kind, heirloom quality, however-they-turn-out creative expressions of functional forms. Lest their simplicity fool you, these are quite labor-intensive. They involve seasonal treks through forests and along riverbanks to harvest crowded saplings and forage for weathered driftwood. Thereafter comes the monitoring of various drying times for different wood species and usage, bark preparation, selection of limbs and branches specific to a piece, visual alignment and fitting of mortise-and-tenon joinery, wood finishing and, where appropriate, a seat. Finally, each piece is stamped and signed. The mortise-and-tenon joinery, used by master crafters, assures strength and longevitiy. Results are not predetermined by steam bending or fabrication. Each piece uniquely becomes its own.
