Materials/Joinery

All wood is harvested in an environmentally responsible manner from the plentiful maple, hickory, serviceberry, sassafras, sycamore and other species of saplings found growing in thickets in our area. Knotholes, buck rubs, forks, curves, driftwood, aged wood, and other peculiarities are often used. Pieces are meticulously constructed using time honored mortise-and-tenon joinery. Surfaces are cleaned, sanded and hand rubbed with several coats of natural nut oil. Finally, each is stamped and signed. A family heirloom is born.

Seating is handwoven using standard cotton webbing (Shaker tape) and flat reed. Other styles include upholstered, wood, and when available, hickory splint.
